Albert Pujols is the Last Hope For Baseball
Albert Pujols is the Last Hope For Baseball
In an era where any homerun hit by a baseball player is scrutinized left and right, we as fans need to sit back and enjoy what we are seeing by Albert Pujols. What he is accomplishing right now is nothing short of spectacular, putting up numbers that we haven’t seen since Ruth played the game.
Right now Pujols is slugging the ball with authority, batting well over .300 with 36 homeruns and creeping up to 100 RBI’s. It’s not everyday that we see numbers like this a few weeks after the All-Star Break. However, his amazing performance this season is over shadowed with names like Bonds, Censeco, and even more recently, A-Rod and Manny.
Pujols has publicity stated that he is disappointed that his name has to be mentioned with other players who have taken short cuts to get ahead of the game..and doesn’t think it is fair that whispers of steroids have to be floated around with every homerun he hits this year. He has even said he would take a drug test every day if need be, as he if confident in his ability to play the game and how far he has gotten being a clean athletic. A few months ago Pujols graced the cover of Sports Illustrated with the caption “Don’t be Afraid to Believe in Me”.
And we aren’t…Pujols popularity is at an all time high...and even though there will always be whispers of steroids and HGH with him or any other big time player, one could argue that this is actually helping Pujols this season. He is making a case for the Triple Crown and putting up video game type numbers. With all the talk of Manny and A-Rod this year, fans from all over the country want to see Pujols succeed just because he is the new face of clean baseball, the way it should be played. Not only are Cardinal fans rooting for Pujols this year, but fans of pure baseball, fans who love the game the way it should be played.
Pujols is showing that he is the savior of baseball, urging people to believe that a clean game still exists, and his performance this year speaks for itself. Pujols has shown that his 2009 campaign is no fluke, he has consistently crushed the ball in every park he goes to, and will continue to for years to come. He was the fastest player to ever get to 300 career homeruns, and he is also the only player ever to hit 30 or more dingers in his first eight seasons. Pujols has always been the model of consistency, and right now it looks as though he will surpass Barry Bonds as the homerun king. How fitting that Pujols will most likely catch up to and pass the face of steroid baseball and hold the title of all time homerun king. Right now Pujols seems to be the only hope for baseball, and he is giving every fan of the game a reason to believe.
